Since it's founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired contributions around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities.

Thomas Jefferson University and Independence Blue Cross Fuel Innovative Health Care Solutions

Thomas Jefferson University/Jefferson Health and Independence Blue Cross hosted a free-to-participate Health Hack (#healthhackPHL) on November 4 - 6 on the Thomas Jefferson University campus.

This second annual Health Hack was designed to help reinvent access, engagement, connection to and delivery of health care by creating innovative solutions to the biggest challenges in the industry today. Participation was open to the public and included health professionals, designers, programmers, nurses, engineers and students, all working to develop new ideas and potential realities for the future of health care.

Jefferson Excels in The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Scores

The Leapfrog Group has recognized Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Methodist Hospital and Abington – Lansdale Hospital with an “A”, ranking us among the safest hospitals in the United States.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice annually. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Thomas Jefferson University’s Center for Medical Cannabis Education & Research Announce Groundbreaking Collaboration with Temple

Temple University, a leader in substance abuse research, announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Thomas Jefferson University’s Center for Medical Cannabis Education & Research (CMCER), the nation’s first comprehensive resource for expert-developed, unbiased information about medical uses of marijuana and cannabinoid-focused therapies within a major US health sciences university.

Together, the institutions seek to encourage research and education initiatives involving physicians and scientists working within each institution and elsewhere.

Jefferson Partnering with IBM Watson on 'Smart' Hospital Rooms

A hospital stay can be an unsettling experience. The stress of diagnosis and the sometimes hectic atmosphere can cause a lot of anxiety for patients and their families.

Jefferson recently partnered with IBM to launch cognitive hospital rooms, powered by IBM Watson Internet of Things, in order to help ease the stress on patients and clinicians. The technology will be designed so patients can interact with it, make requests and trigger actions that improve the overall patient experience.
